Been around a looooong time!
Don't know him. There are lots of 10th dans out there that have that rank because they formed their own organizations.
Watch the classes, do they give you what you want?
Do they treat their students with respect?
Do they require respect?
Is it a mutually earned respect that they are looking for?
Beware of long term contracts that you can't get out of if you don't like what you are doing.
Try it out, enjoy.
If you don't enjoy the training go somewhere else.
A very simple explanation -
Sport Jujitsu - lock someone out or choke someone out to gain a win for a trophy or a belt. = Game = lots of rules.
Real Jujitsu - Control and subdue if your life is not in danger. If your life is in danger, break your opponent down unto death if need be. = Life Protection = Proper action for the exact situation.
Jujitsu's history is as a way for a warrior who has lost his katana to take an armored opponent to the ground and stun him long enough to pull his tanto then stab him.
The "sport form" of Jujitsu is typically Judo.
Neither will work in a street fight. You cannot use a hold on a street. They are already typically on the ground so you cannot take it down. You also cannot really stab asphalt. Why would you be getting into a fight with a street anyway?
Now, against humans, see the first paragraph. It's meant to work against an armored opponent on whom a strike would not be effective. So I'd guess it would work if needed. This is dependent on your skill level, your opponent's skill level, and a million other factors out of your control.
Sport jujitsu is for competition, with points and rounds and referees and uniforms and trophies. Real jujitsu is to knock out your opponent as soon as painlessly as possible before getting the hell out of there.
@ Isaiah Deal - Jujutsu is a sport martial art? Really? There are people here with many years of real martial arts experience... not just kid asking dumb questions.
To asker - I never heard of him but maybe he has rank in both Karate and Jujutsu... it's not like it's impossible.
Do you know what "real jujutsu" looks like?
BJJ is not "real" jujutsu! Yet, whenever anyone says the word "jujutsu", everyone assumes the reference is to BJJ.
Get his website and post it so those who have extensive knowledge can help you.
well jujitsu is a sport martial art, its good if the guy your fighting takes you down, but its not a discipline martial art like judo. Jujitsu is like wrestling, so is judo, just wanted people to know that because i hate it when people think its kicks and punches. If you want to learn discipline, i would go with something other than jujitsu, but if you want something for street fights i would go with it because street fights tend to go to the ground, and if you don't know how to get of your back, they are going to kill you.
