Poetry Dilemma?
I always struggle when writing a poem. I try to write about an image or scene in a very evocative manner. But, sometimes, I fear that my message isn't getting across. Also, I am unsure about whether to write in fragments, or use sentences spaced out into several lines. Balancing fragments and complete thoughts without dissrupting the flow is another challenge.
Does anyone know how to overcome these challenges when writing a poem, or perhaps provide an example of a poem that perfectly balances all of these elements?
P.S. I don't like most rhyming poems.

I guess you just need to read a lot of poetry and find out whether you like fragments/sentences better. And write a lot and find out what works best for you- what comes naturally. A lot of the time the rhythm of a poem will tell you how a line wants to be structured. Noone can tell you how to write what you want to say, you just need to figure out for yourself how you want to say it.

If they sound good in your head but bad on paper try a tape recorder. I had this poem I wanted to write in the middle of getting ready for work and it was a great beginning of a poem but I didn't have the time and it still was a little rough. On a tape recorder you make the words flow easier I think and don't have to worry about writing anything down. I wish I had a tape recorder. I'd take it everywhere. Go with your flow. I don't think poems are perfect. I know I could always change mine.
