Here is what is going on:
There are two design firms who are contracted out by a company (Lets call them "Branch"). I am one of them. The other design firm creates a design style guide for Branch with a font collection that's a whopping $600. Since we are also working on design for this company Branch, do we need to have a commercial license for this as well? Or should we just get the font files and use them?

You should be using the fonts legally.
What you need to do is request the fonts from Branch. Let them know that they can provide the fonts for you or you will buy the package and charge back for it. If it is being used company-wide, they may have purchased a large multi-user package and can legally share. Alternately, they may just send it to you or have the other company provide to you. It's really still not legal, but it's more their fault if anything were to happen.
