I am trying to debate if I should go active duty or reserves in the Navy. I want to go active to get away from where I live and start my own life, but I also want to go to college which would be easier in the reserves, but that would mean coming back to where I live now. Any advice, opinion, or help would be appreciated.

If you go active duty, you'll get the Post 9/11 GI Bill. It pays for all college up to 36 months (four years if you take Summer off) and you'll get paid based on your work load and where you live. As long as you're Honorably discharged. For instance, in most areas in California, if you take 12 credits or more in a semester, you'll get around 2K a month. That would be, in my opinion, the best route for education. Reserves don't offer anything like that.
nicely, so some distance as Reserves vs. nationwide preserve, the nationwide preserve has extra reward (on account which you get state reward besides as federal reward), promotions tend to be somewhat much less complicated, and there are extra jobs accessible (because of the fact the Reserves don't have try against jobs). the version between those 2 and lively accountability is that lively accountability squaddies have an entire time interest while nationwide preserve and Reservists basically artwork (and basically gets a commission for) one weekend according to month. This leaves time to have yet another interest, family individuals, and preparation, yet they the two get deployed in basic terms like lively accountability.
Id say getting an education is the most important, go to the reserves
Even in the reserves your college can be interrupted by a deployment. It depends on your new units deployment schedule.
College isn't for everyone to start off. I'm currently a sophomore in college and I just signed. I'll be going active duty. Active duty has so many benefits, but so does reservist. If you can hold on of college, then go ahead. If you aren't 100% sure what you want to do in the civilian world, then Active would be beneficial. They pay for school, and you get paid while going to school. Not to mention, depending on your A school, credits from that can transfer over to your university. It just really depends on what the classes are and your college.
Also, if you end up going to a "yellow ribbon" (or whatever it called), school, the school/military will (if I am under the correct assumption) pay for the entire thing and give you a month stipend and pay for books. Reservist doesn't do that, as they only pay up to a certain percentage of schooling.
Best of luck!
